Macau's claims on the title of the world's gaming capital have been strengthened this week with the release of figures that show even more money than ever is being spent across the tiny Chinese enclave's glittering casinos.

And that news must have been welcomed with wide smiles in the offices of Sands China, the Las Vegas-backed casino operators who are now putting the finishing touches to their latest Macau property, the $4 billion Sands Cotai Central complex which boasts a casino, hotel and sprawling shopping mall and will officially open on April 13.
