I hear ya! I'm a cub scout leader and always working low budget! :0)

First, I'd suggest not doing too many seated games. You will lose their patience and attention. Rotate from seated to active. Starting with active might be a good thing

Try "get rich or die trying","Metal gear",and "Halo".HAHA!!!!!

Teens bring early Easter to kids in need

    20.05.12

Easter came early to the children of SafeHaven on Saturday.

The young residents of the shelter for victims of domestic violence enjoyed games, an Easter egg hunt, gifts of stuffed animals and a home-cooked lunch of tacos.

Helping the children hunt for the plastic pastel eggs were the teens who filled nearly 200 of them with candy and then hid them on the grounds of the shelter — members of Assisteens, the teen-age auxiliary of the Assistance League of Kansas City.

“Normal kid activities” often are missing from the lives of those who have fled abusive households for the safety of the shelter, said Meredith Dunham, 14, a freshman at Pembroke Hill School. “We are helping them have fun.”

Meredith was one of 16 members of Assisteens who treated the residents of SafeHaven and its Children’s Center to a day of festivities and food.

“We want the kids and the women to know that there are people who care,” said Kristen Nelson, 17, a junior at Park Hill High School and president of the auxiliary.

The Assistance League of Kansas City is a Gladstone-based nonprofit. Its philanthropic efforts include helping youth in need, providing kits for victims of rape and befriending seniors living in care facilities.

“We assist the Assistance League with their projects,” said Karen Moreno, Assisteens coordinator. “And we have our own projects.”

Though they’ve been plenty busy with their own service work, the teens added the Easter egg hunt this year.

“Easter is important and these kids may be forgotten if we don’t help,” said Erin Stump, 15, a freshman at Park Hill South High School.

Some of the other projects Assisteens have completed this school year are providing new pajamas and celebration/birthday bags for children in emergency shelters, assisting with a church trunk-or-treat, assembling food boxes for homebound recipients through The Northland Christmas Store and singing carols, playing bingo and entertaining seniors at a residential facility.

The auxiliary has 31 members from schools all over the Kansas City area — and other countries as well. This year, foreign exchange students from Albania, China, Hungary and Russia are participating in Assisteens.

Members of the auxiliary say they are acquiring leadership and communication skills, meeting a wide variety of other teens and feeling good about helping people who are less fortunate.

“You know you’re doing something right when you see the smiling faces,” said Melanie Summers, 15, a sophomore at Winnetonka High School.
